mossburg 500 help
 

i am using this gun for turkey hunting this year and it doesnt seem to get that many hits head and neck so i was wondering if anybody had used this gun and what they used for bullets and for a choke?

i have a few mossberg 500's what i use for turkey loads are federals, and an undertaker extra full turkey choke and it shoots a great pattern up to 40 yrds.

My son & I both use a Mossberg 500. I've had mine for 10yrs now. If your not using a xx-full extended choke they won't pattern well. My setup is as follows 12ga 500 w/ mossbergs xx-full extended choke, Nitro 4x5x71/2 shot load. I easily get 35 pellets in head & neck @40yds. My son's setup is 12ga. 500 w/ Undertaker xx-full extended choke, and same Nitro load. His gun gets about the same in head & neck.

I've used a Mossberg 500 20ga the last 5 or 6 years. I didn't get real good patterns until I went to a Hastings® Super Full extended Choke Tube, non-ported. I use a horded stash of Remington® 3" Mag 1¼oz of #6 Hevi•Shot®. With this combo I put 29 pellets into a 3" circle @ 40yds. I'm confident of my gun & load to a full 40yds. That's asking a lot of a 20ga but my choke & ammo combo will do it. I bet if you get a Swarm™ choke & shoot with the Federal® loads you described you'll have an awesome combination.

If you have tried all of your shot and tube combo's, then get a stack of paper. Place the gun on top of the paper. Whala! Your new paper wieght.

I shoot a Mossberg 500 12 ga and I just use the Full Choke that came with it and Winchester Supreme Turkey loads 3inches 1300FPS 1 2/3 oz 5 shot.. This setup has done awesome for me this year, I have killed 3 birds with it (1 turkey being at 58yards) and my buddy killed 1 with it...

thanks guys i think ill stick with what i got this year but next year ill be putting a choke in it or buyin a turkey gun im just goin to use the choke that came with it and these 3 inch 1300 fps 1 3/4 oz #5 shot cause i already have them

Keep your shots pretty close if you don't have a x-full or some type of turkey choke in there. 20-25 yds.

I have the 500 that was exclusively sold through Wal Mart as a turkey gun with the shorter 24" ported barrel and in camo. I have an undertaker .665 choke in the gun and with Winchester Supreme 3" #5's the gun patterns acceptable out to 40 yards.

yea i got a choke in there its a full choke but its the one that came with it and i shot out to 40 yards and there wasnt a real tight pattern only probly10 to 15 head an neck but i probly will only shot out to 30 or so yards
