Just because...
 

Just because turkeys dont roost around where i hunt, does that mean im gonna havea hard time calling them in? I can hear them gobble several hundred yards away early in the morning, but on MY propert im pretty sure they dont roost. Any tips on somehow getting them to roost on my property, or maybe getting them to come in from a ways away where they roost? Thanks for any help

Have you ever seen sign of turkeys where you hunt? If theydon't normally hang out there it might be hard to get them to come in.

Once they really start gobbling, maybe throw a few calls over to where you hear them. Doing that a few times may convince agobbler that there's a hen or 2 over on your place. As the season heats up, sub-dominant gobblers will often try to sneakup to some hens silently so they don't get whupped by the "big man on campus". If an amorous tom hears "hens" (really you) enough to make him think he's got a chance....get ready.

If you get one to gobble back at you, go soft with the calls. A few clucks and shorts purrs every now an then shoulddo it. Once they hear you, they knowwhereyou are,and conversely, the"hens" know where the tom is. Also,don't just listen for toms. Often the hens will come in calling softly or silent to check out the new "girls". If you can get some real hens to come your way, even better. Let thereal pros do the calling for you. Hopefully they'll pull a tom ot two your way.

I think that's exactly right, if you can hear a gobbler, he can hear your call although you may need to be as loud as possible with your call. Also remember to be patient in this case, it may take him an hour or longer to find you but as long as he gives you an occasional gobble....

If you have trees for the turkeys to roost in with cover than you will need to plant some sort of food plots where the turkeys can go to eat. With the food right there they might eventually roost there.

I would try to get some food out where you can begin to draw them in and keep them around your area. As long as you have food, water, and a some big trees for them to roost in, I think you could establish a flock on your property!
