Dont understand.

Do Turkeys winter in a different place than where they hang out in the other times of the year?? The place that I Deer hunt was over run with turkeys last year, and now the landowner tells me that he has not seen a bitd out there all winter. I am talking about a 20 acre area, wit probably close to 100 birds on it every day,and now nothing![:@]

An old timer told me that where I saw turkeys and sign during deer season doesn't mean they will be there during spring. The woods change and then so does thefood sources. Look for fresh green grass and water.

Its the same where I hunt, I had flocks under my stand in December, but haven't seen one since then.
Don't worry, they are close by, they just change their patterns according to food, predators, etc.
My season opens in 2 weeks and I'm confident that they will be back, unless your season is almost over I'd say don't sweat it.

find the food.....fresh seeded fields, fresh spread manure in a field and you will find the birds. During deer season they are after the same mast crops.....acorns, beechnuts, apples and the like. One of a turkeys favorite foods in the spring is grasshoppers. Find a field full of grasshoppers after a rain and set up there. Slows the grasshoppers down and they are able to chow down on them.

From my experience hunting Georgia, their habits do change from the last part of deer season to the opening of turkey season. However, as the season goes along, they usually return back to their "flock" patterns as the breading ends. Don't give up on those spots, chances are they will return towards the end of your season.

The rule of thumb as I understand it is, if the birds are there in the winter, they will be around in spring, but that doesn't include fall. Winter changes things as far as turkeys are concerned wouldn't ya think?
