Close range patterns ??
Lets see some patterns at close ranges. I have seen alot @ 40 yards but what if you have to take a shot at 20 - 25 yards. How tight are these 50-60 yard guns?

RE: Close range patterns ??
I shot one at 25 yards the other day and just basically wiped the target out. I had way to many holes to count...

This is at 20 yds. My max range is about 45 yds. All I know is that he won't be walking anymore if he comes in to 20 yds.:D

That top pattern at 20 yards huh??? That is pretty impressive if indeed it's a true 20 yards... The second pattern looks more like a 20 yard pattern;)

I dont think a turkey is going anywhere with either of those shooting at him,,lol. At least as long as they are holding steady,, at that range its easy to miss if your not paying attention. Looking good guys, now we need to see some pics of some real heads with those patterns..:D

My 11 year old Daughters Benelli Super Black Eagle II with 3" Winchester HV 1 3/4 oz #6's and a .660 choke will make a fist sized hole in a target at 15 to 20 yards, cut a turkey's head clean off!

I shot a jake a few years back at about 10 yards and didn't take his off... Just tore it up pretty bad... And my pattern looks like Swampcollies at 20 yards...
I've patterned a lot of turkey guns and have never seen one that will put a fist size hole in a target at any range.. You must have one of those still target championship turkey guns;) |
RE: Close range patterns ??
Well I decide to go out today and shoot a target, and like I said in my last post, its easy to pull off at 20 yards, this target is a 20 yard shot, with my Stoeger M2000 with a Kicks Gobblin Thunder choke, and Remington Nitro #5s. Measured with a laser rangefinder. I pulled the shot a little.:)

After the pulled shot, I was aggravated, so I decided to try again, and shot a paper plate at a measured 25 yards, the plate is a tyical paper plate, 9 inches I think. Same gun, choke, and load, only 25 yards with a rangefinder.

Angus I would be willing to bet you are not an artist for a living. I can poke fun cause I couldn't draw that good, By the way I would say pattern might just put him down

Yeah, I figured a few guys would get a chuckle out of my fantastic drawing,,lol. I dont think Ill quit my job anytime soon to take up my art career, It did give me a jist of how the pattern would be on a turkeys head, I was out of turkey targets.

I have missed 3 birds in my life, all were inside of 15 yards and one was at only 8 :(. If you hunt them long enough, you are going to miss... My best friend has one of those custom made tubes and old country boy made for him, and with that choke his pattern at 20 yards isn't much bigger than the top of a dixie cup and I have seen him miss birds at 27 steps with that gun. Its really almost TOO tight. |
