Gobble Call
 

In what situations would one use a gobble call? I wouldn't think you would want to use one in an area that got a lot of pressure but when woud you use it on say private property?

It may only be effective the first few days of the season. As far as dominance goes it may scare away the younger gobblers, much like rattling and grunting can scare away younger bucks.

I would probably only use it for a locator call. A lot of times a gobble will cause another Tom to gobble. The only other time I would use it is if a Tom is hung up and just won't come in any further and your using a jake/Tom decoy and the Tom. Then maybe try it out of desperation...might make the Tom want to come in.

I have used it as a locator call and when a gobbler is hung up just out of sight. I have found that I can get a gobbler pretty worked up by giving a few light calls on the mouth call and then shake the gobbler call.

One of my first turkey hunts was with Slicendice from this board. We got into our spot early and had birds gobbling all around us once they flew down they found their hens and didn't want to come in.

A little while into the hunt we heard some hens on the ridge above us, we called and called trying to bring the hens in and hopefully a gobbler with them. Nothing seemed to work, as a last ditch effort I told slice to gobble and see what happened. 5 seconds after he gobbled those hens came right down the hill to our decoys and had a gobbler in tow. Slice smoked him in a heartbeat, I think the gobble that he threw out there definitely brought those birds in to us.

I like to use it when the turkeys really aren't gobbleing much. I will do around of calls and then throw in the gobble and the end to try and get them to gobble back. Otherwise when i am trying to locate the birds and nothing else works i will try the gobble call.
