decisions, decisions
I am in the market for decoys and am looking for any advice/suggestions to what seems to work the best. A single hen? Hen/Hen/Jake? or Hen/Tom? or whatever.
Thanks |
RE: decisions, decisions
The bird I killed sunday came in to a single hen. It was a cheap foam Flambeau. Now that really doesn't mean a thing. Tomorrow they might not come in to a deke at all or they may want a whole flock out there!

RE: decisions, decisions
One or two hens would be good. I use Flambeau as well...

RE: decisions, decisions
Depends on the situation. You won't go wrong with a hen or two. Early in the season, sometimes having a jake nearby will aggrevate a tom into acting when he'd rather stand and strut. Late in the season here, so many guys use the 2-hens-and-a-jake setup, the toms will shy away from that combination. Then a lone hen is better.

RE: decisions, decisions
It is hit and miss. I use two hens early in the season. I use two hens and a jake in the later seasons. JMO

RE: decisions, decisions
I got two on April 1, 2007 and they both came to a single feeding hen decoy by Delta. I have a "love triangle" of two hens and a jake, but I only used the single hen this time. I agree with zubba...use just hens early on and then use a jake a little later in the season.

RE: decisions, decisions
sounds like a couple hens is the ticket, ever noticed better reaction to a certain brand over another, or are they all pretty much the same?
any good things to say about the wobble head dekes? |
