owl hooters

I am in the market for an owl hooter. What's the best one out there?

Don't buy a Primos owl call. They suck really bad, sounds like a sick duck. If you can do it with your mouth it will sound better.

HS has a descent one. If you buy a Primos one, cover all the port holes...then they don't sound too bad.

Never had a gobbler gobble at an owl call.

The best production owl call in my opinon is the Palmers Hoot Tube. The best I have ever heard is my custom mahogony call made by Bud and Betty's. But still, I have made plenty gobble just by hollering like an owl.

Years ago I started with a Quaker Boy owl hooter and then went to using my mouth. It sounds like "Who Cooks For You, Who Cooks For You All". I just use it in the late evening as a locator call.

I make my own owl hoot by cupping my hands and calling out the, "who cooks for you who for you all".With practice you can fix up the calling and it works real well :D

My Primos Camp Owl sounds pretty decent. Not much volume tho, but if you need more you can take the mouth piece out of the tube. I had them gobble to it last year even without the volume.

USE YOUR VOICE. It's cheaper, weighs less, and you hardly ever use it. Most owl hooters aren't nearly loud enough either. You don't have to sound perfect. You could scream "hey turkeys" and make them gobble. West of Missouri and Arkansas, this won't scare them at all. In the south and east, you need to sound a little more realistic, because the turkeys there are much more pressured and more skitish. When we go to Kansas or Texas, we just blow the horn on the truck. It's louder so they gobble like crazy and I don't know of any I've scared out there (probably wouldn't do this if I think they're close, though.).

Turkeys are wary, but they're stupid. Not able to reason at all. They do recognize danger. So if you honk your horn and then shoot at him shortly after, he'll spook at the horn from then on.

Well I always carry an owl hoot which is made by Quaker Boy but I never had a turkey gobble yet well not too much so I also carry a crow call made by Quaker Boy also. Along with a H.S. Strut hawk call but some where among my calls I also keep a big gobble so if the gobblers wont answer I could always pull that out.
