Little bit about me;

My name is Dan, I used to post in the Turkey forum pretty frequently, but I've sort of tapered off over the years. This will be my eighth season in the turkey woods. I've decided to shake things up a bit this season and leave the shotgun at home. Not only will I be chasing them with my bow, but we'll be filming the action for the DVD we're working on.

Its great to be on the team and I look forward to getting to know all of you a bit better.

Dave, where in northern WI do you live? I live in MN now but I grew up in Clintonville, WI about a hour NW of Green Bay. I still come back to WI for turkey and deer hunting, and to visit family.

When does everyone's [primary]season open and how long does it run?

Ours opens April 15th and runs until May 15th. For some odd reason they decided to open it on a Sunday this year, go figure. I'll have just started back to work at a new job, so I'll be limited to hunting weekends.

JW 03-11-2007 05:30 PM

RE: Team 5

I start in Georgia March 27 or 28 - Then to Tennessee April 3 to 5 and then to the Upper Penn of Mich Apr. 23 ( my birthday) [won't tell how old but shot my 3rd bird on my 40th with my great grand daddies Black Powder SG - told ya am looking for #37) and then Wisc May 9 & May 16th - and will fit in Illinois and Iowa somewhere there.

Copper31;
I know where Peshtigo and Oconto are. My wife grew up in Suring.

My MN and WI hunts are both in the beginning of May. I will be however trying to get another tag for WI. I'm hopeing I can fill both my tags so I can mount them, one flying and one stutting for the showroom. The jake I shot last year on the last day of my season is going to be done as a breast mount.
Can't wait to get out there, i've been practicing on some new diaphram calls i bought the other day.

Yes Washingotn been around for a while and the strange thing is - each time I enter the turkey woods and work a bird or two - I learn somehting new.

Find that totally facinating............

Now to all of Team 5 - you get a bird - no matter what the size - save the wings - I'll make a wingbone call for you!

Watch for my how to do it post coming soon. Oh I do not sell them - never have!

Only 12 more people to complete our team. Seen about 8 turkeys yesterday on my way back home. They were not close to where i hunt but it still gets me exited about the upcoming season.

Washington Hunter 03-14-2007 02:24 PM

RE: Team 5

We went out today to do a little scouting on our property.

First call I made I had three toms light up about 75 yards away through some small timber. I could see them well enough to see they had probably 6" beards. Tried calling a bit more to see if I could bring them in any closer but they had quite a few hens with them at the time.

Walked around a bit more and on the way back to the truck we ran into a flock with a half dozen or so toms in it, all with about 6" - 8" beards. It was a pretty deep snow pack this year even down low where these turkeys stayed. I'm thinking we won't have too many beards exceeding 8" this year due to it.

Anyhow, the turkeys are around for sure! Now if I can only get them to come in in April! ;)

I don't want y'all to think I'm trying to rush in and take the team captain position here. I've participated in quite a few of these contests now so I just know to get things rolling pretty quick. Anybody wants to step in and take that spot you're more than welcome. :D

Trophy,

I couldn't imagine waiting that long every year! Having those toms light up on me this morning sure got my blood flowing.

WH,lead on you're doing great. Saw a flock of 20 today w/7 jakes no long beards but with that many hens there should be some nearby. Got a nice one spotted for opening day hope he stays where he's at.I'll be roosting on the headboard and gobbling atdawn for the next couple of months.

Beard busters?

Just a thought!

Was out praticing my calls at some of the local park land and called in a jake....to bad i cant hunt milwaukee county. I can hunt across the street though as it right on the county line.....Just need to get the permission. The turkeys are tearin it up back there. And i know of at least 3 long beards....but i have plenty of place with big birds and proven spots!

Good luck to all

On my way home from work last nigh I decided to take a detour to my cabin and as I drive past one of the fields I lease to a farmer there must have been 90 to 100 turkeys if there was one.I had seen this during the late fall deer hunt as I would drive past but I had never seen it in the spring. I am excited.

Beard Busters sounds like a good team name to me.

If more people like it, I think we should go with that.

Good suggestion!

Beard busters sounds good to me, because we are all going to be looking at long beards laying at our feet at the end of our hunts.

Are any of the rest of you going to be videoing your hunts?

This will be the first season we begin filming for our DVD, so hopefully I'll be able to post a little clip at the end of the season to tease y'all with. ;)

Dan,

Do you have someone to be the camera person or are you putting the camera on a tripod? I have been out with the video camera for deer but have not taken it turkey hunting yet.

My hunting partner and I will be taking turns filming one another, yes. I just picked up a Double Bull Matrix too, so that should help out quite a bit.
