Team 9 -- "Gobbler Getters"
#142
Ryncam,
Figure out your score and post it to paintbrush so we can get it on the board. It's a close call between four teams but I think Team 8 has the edge right now. With your bird we're definitely within strike distance. I've only got 9 days left. Time for me to pull out the shotgun. I'm going to start hunting at lunch behind work next week and on National Forests on the way home!

Congrats to you ryncam and to you to turkeygirl2! I'll get the scores into deerdust so he can get them posted for our team.
I just got back from my MN. hunt and I took a good longbeard this morning.I got set up on him and 3 other gobblers. I got into within about 80 yards or so. I made a couple of soft tree calls and the birds gobbled constantly until fly down. I heard 2 fly down and march up the hill towards me. I was set up on a field edge. The one tom came out of the woods about 20 feet from me! He let out a gobble right there and that was very loud! I let him get 20 yards out into the field and then leveled him.
The day before I had 2 toms at about 60 yards a gobbling and strutting but they would not come in any further .After about 10 minutes of this a real hen came over and towed the toms off. About 30 minutes later,a hen and tom showed up and I got the tom within 45 yards, but I could never get that darn bird to break strut! I cut, yelped putted and even yelled at him but all he would do was gobble and continue to strut! I learned the hard way a few years back to NOT take a shot at a strutting turkey at that distance, so I let him walk.Maybe thats the bird I got today. You never know.
Anyway, the bird I got weighed 19lbs 2oz.,has 7/8 and 1 in. spurs and a 10.25 in. beard for a score of 58.375.
My turkey hunting year is now over with, time to think fishing,so good luck to all my team members still on the hunt! Keep them scores coming in!

Hey, paintbrush, what's the team's total score? The Turkey teams POSTED thread doesn't have overall scores.
BTW, Congrats, ryncam16.
My uncle shot a turkey yesterday, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go with him, wasn't in town.

With all the scores sent to me,we have a team total of 732.0625 as of right now. Bear in mind that all of our scores are not posted yet on the score sheet. I have sent them in,but some are still not listed. I'm sure this is the same with other teams as well.

Paintbrush,Are we going by an over-all team score???I thought it was one bird per person..If it is as many birds as we can enter I still have one more that I shot with my bow last saturday.I have all pics for it too.

Well that bird skunked me again. I decided to try a different route Sat. morning and when I topped out on the bench, after a long 45 deg. climb, he gobbled 80 yards from me. I set up quickly behind a big tree and didn't set out any decoys for fear of being spotted. I did some soft tree yelps for a while and once I thought it was light enough did my fly down. He gobbled over 20 times from 5:50 - 7:15 and then went silent. I never heard him fly down. It had rained that night and it wasa little foggy so I think he stayed on the roost the whole time. He never cut me off or gobbled right after my call but only after I had been quiet for a while. I think he was wondering why he couldn't see the hens he thought were right near him. I had company staying at my house so I had to back out quietly at 8. I plan on trying it again tomorrow morning before going in to work, and trying another place right behind work all week during my lunch hour.
