Well ladies and gents, it's over for me. Last night I went out. Got set up without spooking the birds in the adjoining field. After an hour or so I had 10 turkeys out in that field 4 of which were BIG toms and 1 jake. I heard a hen yelp back in the forest so I got out a call that sounded the same and managed to pick one of the toms away as they were all headed back into the timber. He made a look about a mile long feeding the whole way and looking up when I would yelp. Eventually he dissapeared over a rise and I figured eventually he would show up as he was angling towards the field I was in. Sure enoughhe appeared with about an hour of shooting left. He stopped at 75 yards to look for his girl that was ragging on him to come pay her a visit. When he saw no sure girl (no deke STUPID ME!) he decided to look at me for a minute then left. I tried to cut him off beings it the last time I could hunt but he just stayed parallel to me getting farther and farther away until I stood up and tipped my hat to him. The more I hunt the more I am convinced the animals (deer and turkeys especially) have a radio collar on me as they seem to know where I am and what I am doing at all times. How else would he have not come in?! Oh well, at least I got a bearded hen this year so I wasnt too bummed out, even though I logged WELL over 50 hours hunting those smart devils! GOOD LUCK to all that are still out there hunting!

No luck again this morning , had a jake 15 yards off to my right didn't even know it , by the time I saw him I was busted.
So let me ask you this ... what would you do after you got busted by a bird , would you stay in the same spot or do you relocate some where else.

Depends on how bad you busted him and what time of day it is. If you bumped him hard I would relocate. If not you might be able to call him back. Ive busted a bird off the roost only to call him back an hour later so it can be done.

Just checking back in been doing a lot of hunting and calling birds in for my family. I enterd my 2 Ohio birds already. I bagged a jake in Pa. I also bagged a big bird in West Virginia on 5/12/07 He was 18# with a 10 3/4 inch beard and had 1 3/8 and a 1 1/2 inch spurs. I don't know if I can enter him too as he is a out of state hunt. Congrats - on every one on our team that scored so far. Me and my 2 boys bagged 13 gobblers this spring.

I wasn't able to buy an extra tag. they were sold out. I have seen birds across the road for a few weeks now. There are several toms there almost every night. Oh well. more for next year!

Well team ... it's over I was unsuccessful in my quest this season , I take it the contest is over as well .
Oh well ... it was fun while it lasted and just remember there's always the fall season and next year.
Thanks to all who allowed me to be your team captain it was an honor and congrats to those who scored.
I'm gonna take a break for a while and get some " honey do " things done around the house so I'm not going to say good bye , I'll just say I'll see you all later.

Your team Captain
