I personally have never hunted turkey but, if you take the time, put in the effort, the scouting, practicing of the calls, patterning the birds, the kill won't be hard. It is all the things that lead up to the kill that takes time, that IMO is the hard part.

It's just another great challenge that makes this type of hunting fun. Even though turkies dont have a sense of smell, there eye sight and hearing is very alert which makes it so you have to be like a ghost in the woods.

Easy to kill, but the know how is in the finding and calling themclose enough to kill! This is what makes you a turkey hunter and not a turkey shooter!:)

And just when you think you have it all figured out the damn turkey goes the other way!

It's really not that difficult, but things can happen in the woods that make it difficult to bag one sometimes. If there is a hot gobbler without hens, then he will usually be a pretty easy kill. An old wise gobbler is a tough adversary. Nothing is guaranteed while turkey hunting though. If it were easy every time out, then it would not be fun. So the answer is, it can be easy at times and very difficult at times to bag one. It all depends on what mood the gobbler is in, and more times than not he won't be in the mood to play with you. There are so many variables that can make or break a hunt. This is what makes it so enjoyable and at times frustrating.

The more you do it the easier it will be to understand the turkey. They can be frustrating and rewarding at the same time. You will learn new things ever time you go out. You will learn the most by your mistakes.

I gotta agree with the old hog guy here , hunting the wild turkey will make a hunter out of you.

I've had textbook hunts that lasted all of 20 minutes, and I've had a whole season where I didn't even hear a gobble until the last day out and everything in between.

If you pattern birds or if you live near where there are some scout it out and set up anambush turkeys have excellent vision so if you do your homework it shouldn't be that hard.

Hey it is fun going out and looking for them alot like I get them around my place alot I never go too far at all. I think the best way to find them is going out onto your porch and sit and listen to them gobble if you live in the mountainous woods like I do. But if your setting up for a hunt go out take with you either an owl or crow call and do it quietly going in and coming out you don't want to spook the bird either way all because I've done that already when I was at an old farm near me and it was a mess for me. I know two guys that have been hunting public land for about 4 or 5 years and never called in or kill a gobbler... They both got access to some private property on the Md eastern shore... They were the only two hunting the property for turkeys... They both rolled3 year oldgobblers each with 1.25-1.50 hooks...

So my answer to your ? is... It depends on were you hunt...

A very important part of turkey hunting is in not just finding the roosts or where the birds have been flying down..You never know what can happen and you may have to run and gun and if the birds are quiet, it can sure be difficult..My first two hunts were by the book, set up and the birds gobbled on the roost and flew down and came into the field straight to the decoy and it was lights out..Now, I have been hunting turkeys for a dozen years and it hasnt always been that way and more times than not it has gone like it shouldnt not like it should..Find where the turkeys(hens) are going to feed or even nest, paitence is a virtue and you may or may not need it..Good luck
