Nope. I usually step on their head right after I shoot them until their dead. I also do this to keep the fan looking good and to prevent loosing tail feathers.

Never spurred but man have I gotten thumped by the wings. Geesh.

I was spurred in my early years by a gob I shot - he got me good inthe middle of my palm - only once, lol (4 holes in gloves??). Best, as stated above, is to just step on the head til they stop beating their wings.
I've wrestled cannon-netted gobs for trap/transplant, and it was always a bit scary getting them from the net into the cardboard transportation box...

yeah i had always been told to step on the head because my turkey teacher told me a couple of stories of getting stabbed.
