RE: Fav. call

if i had to pick a production call id have to go with knight and hales "ole yeller" i think its called. id tell ya but mine is so worn from sanding im going to need a new one..havent been able to read the writting on it in years..but i think thats what its called. its got the "sla-tek" surface..but man that thing really sings. i use that more than my slates and glass calls i made myself...ive never found a good striker that comes with calls out of the box..i always make my own..

I would say one of my favroite calls to use is the Hurricane waterproof box call from Quaker Boy.
I really like the way it sounds and it does work real good if it gets wet.

RE: Fav. call

Although subject to making a mistake more so than with my slates/pot callsI go with a mouth call for one simple reason - I don't need to move to use it. Having said that, when I call for others I LOVE using a slate and a mouth call at the same time. It takes some practice but you can create a whole 'concert' when the opportunity arises. Sounding like a couple of different birds is sometimes just the trick to bring ole TOM in!

Good luck with your new calls, remember, practice, practice, practice! Whatever you are the most comfortable with is what you should go with, regardless of what anyone says.

Just my opinion, but turkey calling is a lot like fly tying............you don't need to sound like the pros to call in a bird (but it helps!) just like you don't have to have that PERFECT looking fly to catch Mr. Trout just as long as you cast in the right place and get a perfect drift.

Again, good luck and call em in this spring!

So far, the best that works for me is a Primos Many Beards. Fits like a glove and it's the only one so far that I've bought that doesn't sound like a dying mongoose. :D

Primos Power Crystal has been my favorite the last couple of years, Knight and Hale's Ol' Yeller has to be #2.

Primos Power Crystal is very good, especially with the purple heart striker.

Quaker Boy mini-mag diaphragm calls. They fit better than most other calls.
