Get'n the most from your box call, the CUTT
A Cutt can be produced a number of ways resulting in various volumes and crispness. The first method shown I'll refer to as the "Thumb Spring" method. Place the thumb of the box hand over the edge of the paddle and the lip of the sound board, about top center of the sound board. With the paddle hand slap down at about a 45 degree angle,on the opposite edge of the paddle, toward the handle end of the paddle body. The thumb of the box hand will work as a return spring as the paddle rocks on the opposite sound board. " /> This can also be done paddle handle away. " /> The loudest of Cutts can be produced by lifting the paddle from the box in an open position of about 4:30 or 7:30 and lightly slap the paddle down against the sound board with a glancing blow while swiveling the paddle toward a 6:00 position. "A well made call will withstand some pretty powerful blows using this method but a call with thin sound boards could break." ![]() " /> Do this rapidly, switching from side to side will produce excited cutting. When switching from side to side, swivel the wrist of the box hand slightly for comfort. ![]() " /> A variation of the above method may be used "box up," tapping the box against the paddle.
