(Router) and or a (Bit) that would hollow out the inside of the Box Call and or the Slates, this would save alot of sanding. A (Bandsaw) would make the shape of the Box and the the Slates.
(Electric Belt Sander) would work well too.

BOSSTOM; you forgot Drill press(for drilling out the box)a shopmate saw horse to hold them tight.a couple sharp chisles. O well I had better stop also.

really,a small drill press with clamps, some forsner bits.small sande with belt and disk.you can build them with that.(some Good glue, and a finish you like)

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

RE: Building Calls

My tablesaw is the most important & first tool I use (cutting out box and lid, cutting rabbets for inlaying), drillpress is nice to have (initial hollowing out of box and drilling hole in box & paddle for screw), but my favorite power tool and the one that saves me more labor than all the others is a 6" X 24" belt sander that either lays horizontal or tilts to vertical. I use it to shape lids and sounding boards, sand off extra inlay material, finish base bottoms and their rounded edges, and miter off corners of box and lid.

RE: Building Calls

I have been interested also to build my own box call but need a little help making the radius of the lid. I don't have a belt sander but I will get one if that is the best way to go. can someone walk me thru the process of making the radius? I have a table saw, miter saw and router and a saber saw but don't have a sanding tool. Also what type of bit would be good to use with the router? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Turk , I believe Paddles from the Box Calls can be any size , the different sizes will give a box a different sound. Once you find a size that you like then make a Pattern of it. Router bits , I would think a straight one would do alot of work for ya. Tapered from narrow at the bottom and a little wider at the top would be the one you need but I've yet to find one in the shape....BT
I like them with Long Sharp Spurs....
