Anybody use the Primos Real Wing if so , do you like it and does it work ?

I've used a real Wild Turkey wing, it works. Before day light, within ohhh say 125 yards of a roosted Gobbler, if you reach up and brush a tree branch with the wing feathers he'll Gobble. There are a number of things you can do, it's pretty amazing. The real thing is much better constructed though.

Save your money and use your hat. It works just as good.

I think if you dont have anything else, your hat is an OK sub.

But ever since I have started using a real wild turkey wing, Ive scored more off the roost!!!

i thought about carrying a real wing, but ive always used my hat. i wear a military "boonie hat" with a semi stiff brimm. ill rub it on the tree a little and drive him nuts. later ill do a flydown with a cackle and he will go nuts...gotta be extraaaaa carefull when doing stuff like that. i also scratch leaves and stuff too..but when your doing stuff like that dont over do it..get his attention and let him know whats up and thats IT..and make sure he cannot see you. gotta learn the time and place for stuff like that..but when you catch the right bird and get everything done perfect roost hunting is my favorite..nothin like walkin out of the woods with a bird before the sun is fully up. one hunt i was set up perfect for a perfect roost hunt. did it all..fly down with the hat and a cackle..a little later i did some scratching and clucking..flap flap flap..landed on my lap and i walked out of the woods with a nice longbeard. made it home by 7am..could went to school but i took care of the rest of the deal and went back to bed smiling ear to ear...i love when hunts go right like that.

I've also heard of using a hat or one side of your unzipped jacket to sound as if flying down. With a wing you can reach up, catching a branch on the way down, being more directional with the flapping sound and the feathers tips give added realistic sound.[/align]I'd just save the wing tips from your next Turkey, you get two for the price of one. I didn't do anything special, just stick em in a warm shed or attic and let em dry. They'll get beat up before they fall apart.[/align]

You can find Primos wings on clearance all the time. I bought mine cheap. I mean we're not talking big cost like buying a high end choke or fancy custome call. Well worth it rather than the hassle of drying out feathers and then putting something together. It has handle designed for your hand. Hat works fine but I like wackin' against branches as I flap and it is also good for scratching in the leaves. I don't want to have to take my hat off and on and re set my face mask all the time.

If you can't afford $20 then use your hat but it is way more convenient and the added realism to a flydown has killed gobblers for me. As much work as pullingout your wallet and you're set. If you like feeling good about spending as little as possible then sure go ahead and use your hat.

I also have used to to kill a gobbler mimicking a fight and on a couple other occasions to get them to fly across a large river. I don't think it would have worked using my hat.

I picked up from Preston Pittman years ago, an item that he calls the "fly down flapper". It's a piece of camo cloth about 6" wide and 21" long, with a wooden dowel sewn in at each end. You grab it by each end and snap it apart, sounds very similar as to a bird flying out of the roost. Cost wise, I think it went for $5.00.;)
