A Reply and a Few Suggestions.
Wv, no problem. I originally had decided to try to sell some, but I realized I don't want to spend the time it would involve, so that idea is out the window. I hope the call works for you and others I've made them for.
I'd like to make a few suggestions before turkey season opens around the country this year. First I'm going to recommend some good reading on turkey hunting. Tenth Legion by Tom Kelley (somebody on this forum recommended it to me and for the life of me, I can't remember who it was, but Thanks). The Old Pro Turkey Hunter by Gene Nunnery. America's Greatest Game Bird by Archibald Rutledge, edited by Jim Casada. Now I'm going to give some advice, I know y'all have had plenty, but here's some more. On this forum, take heed to what people recommend, some will be of not much use, most will be accurate and beneficial to you as a turkey hunter. Two people I read what they post, Adrian Hare and JW, there's some more, but I can't recall their names, that you can tell they know what they speak. Next, when you're told or you read, stay in the woods if you can.. This past turkey season (2006), I spent exactly 38 strait days in the woods hunting and listening to the turkeys. This was the first time in my life I was able to do this. I would go in the woods before daylight, come back to my truck, which was on the fringe of the woods I hunt, and get a sack chair out of my truck, my thermos of coffee, and just sit there and listen. You wouldn't believe what I heard (turkeys) all hours of the day.. Here in Georgia, we can harvest 3 birds a season, I normally only take two off our land a season, my rule, not the states. I have killed two birds off this land for 27 years, and the third off other land I have permission to hunt. But this past season was exceptional. I called in a total of seven (7) trophy size Gobblers on our land, I got two. I messed up on some, and couldn't judge or make a decision on how far the bird was from me, eyesight problems, which have now been corrected. My point is, stay out there as long as possible, if nothing more than siting in a chair and listening. Put your gun in the truck and just listen for a day. You will realize just how much they are moving around during the day. I thought I knew everything until this past season, now I know more. I heard them start gobbling at all hours of the day, from daylight til dark, you'll be surprised. My two cents, I hope all of you have a great year. dog1 |

Dog , I'm not sure if this is a PM to WV or ment it as a Thread, but in any means thanks for the kind words :D
I spend time across the net not trying to place a Know everything attitude, but rather exercise my expirences that I have gained over the years in hope that some will pick up that little thing they thought about or wondered. As you say: >>> I thought I knew everything until this past season, now I know more.<<< You are so right by that statement. Every spring I get into the woods someplace and run into an old Tom that will hang the best frustration onto me, that I will kick rocks for days over. Anyways I'm glad that there is trust in some of the things I say on the board, but over all we are here to enjoy the stories and humour that we come across everyday till season. I will always try to post in a Opinion fashion, and don't want to come across a Know everything.. |

Dog - what can I say - but I don't hold a candle when it comes to Adrian Hare and Turkey hunting wisdom, knowledge or tactics and a few others here! I am humbled and I do read carefully what Adrian posts as well as others!
The beauty of this whole forum is - the longer you turkey hunt and think you are an expert at it - the sooner you will fail! There are many good people here who are willing to share their knowledge and help others. All I do is try to realte my mistakes and suiccesses to help those who ask. Turkey hunting for me is a disease and I can't get enuf of it! To me each time spent in the field or woods I learn - If I ever think I know it all - then it is time to stay on da porch! ;D JW |

Dang it now ya up and gave me a big head so I gotta look for a new hat!
Well Adrain & Gan - I do have a new theory and will be testing that theory about decoys and sight stimulation. If ya remember back I made and used Bruce! Well I added a modification to Bruce! I'll let ya know my results! JW |
RE: A Reply and a Few Suggestions.
Yeah, and I'm still wondering about that name JW used for his decoy.

RE: A Reply and a Few Suggestions.
I'll just add my two cents here..
I haven't posted a lot on this board until recently, but some members might know me from other hunting forums where I've been kicking around for nearly ten years now... I have no great credentials as a turkey expert other than the fact that I've chased them with a reasonable amount of success for forty years now in several states and one Canadian province.. I just want to say that I've known Adrian Harefor several years and have shared several forums with him...We have met personally a number of times and tipped a few beers together, although I've never had the priveledge of hunting with him.. As a turkey hunter/caller he's the genuine article...He knows his stuff... |
