I used borrax as well and it worked out very well for me. I am not very good at mounting fans and stuff like that, but I was pleased with the results from the borrax.

i use salt or borax as well. then i cut the plastic hull off the shell i shot it with and hot glue the beard into the brass. i drill a hole through the primer and put an eyelet in it and lace it on leather with the spurs on each side...or i mount it on my plauqe i made in shop class with the fan...which is reserved for my biggest bird to date till another one falls...though a mouse stole my spurs from the borax in the garage!!

dito! only thing i do differently is i take a nail and pop the primer out completely rather than drill a hole in it. finished products on jake compared to gobbler....
