Which barrel to buy for my 870 Express?
I've got an Remington 870 Express with a slug barrel. I'm needing to buy a barrel for Turkey hunting. I don't know much about the different barrels, so be specific as to what I should get. Is it possible to get a barrel that I can use for Turkey hunting and maybe rabbit hunting or should I just get one made specifically for Turkey hunting?I do know if I got something that is dual purpose, I would have to add a choke. Thanks for the help.

RE: Which barrel to buy for my 870 Express?
Get a barrel of moderate length, say 26", threaded for choke tubes. That length is a good compromise for just about any use. You can change chokes to make it fit any situation. With interchangeable tubes, I don't think it's necessary to get a single use barrel.

I agree with Wingbone...Many if not most barrels currently made for the Express/870 are now threaded for choke tubes, and usually come with 2 or 3 when you purchase them...
26" is a good all around length..It's a lilttle longer than I prefer for a turkey gun, but it would work fine, and it's an excellent length for upland birds and small game and would work well for ducks and geese.. For turkeys use a full choke or an aftermarket superfull turkey choke...For waterfowl and upland use a more open choke, such as improved cylinder or modified... |

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'll be getting the 26" barrel. Cabelas has them for $149.00.
