Bow hunting for Turkeys
 

Does anyone use a bow for turkey hunting? Seems like the close encounters would be ideal for hunting them with a bow. I might try it this spring depending on when I get my bow. Any help would be appreciated.

:D Just made the switch to bow for turkeys this year. Just love it. It's way, way harder than with a shotgun.

I don't use a blind. I went on the ground no blind and no cover. Missed my one and only shot this year by 12". Arrow just stuck in the ground in front of the turkey. Tried to reload and just when I was pulling/drawing back the bow, they all said outta here.

Was a blast though. If I had a shotgun I could of had my pick.

Hardest part would be pulling back on one. I would try doing it out of a ground blind first off.

Yep sure do , bowhunting for turkeys is a real challenage and a test of skill.
I use my Double Bull T5 ground blind and some decoys in the spring and I also use a string tracher on my bow so if the bird fly's off , I won't lose it.

Don't know much about the string tracker..can you talk a little more about that??

Yep sure can , the string tracer is a spool of bright colored string in a plastic case that attache's to your bows riser or stabilizer and you tie the other end of the string to your arrow shaft and broadhead.
When the arrow is released the string goe's with the arrow leaving a trail to follow if the turkey flies off.
Most sporting goods stores and archery shops will have this in stock , I think it's called more of a string tracker than tracher.

Just tried with the bow for the first time last season and up until I tried that I didn't know why everyone always said that turkey's were so hard to hunt... My first year (2 years ago) my hunt only lasted 45 minutes and after trying to call in two coyotes that were chasing pheasants in the field I shot a bird with a 10" beard, then last season I tried going with the bow and hunted all 7 days of my season and didn't get a bird... a lot bigger challenge...

How is the arrow flight? Is there a big difference?

Nope , none at all the string is more like a thin thread and doesn't cause a problem.

I got busted the first 3 times I tried to draw on a turkey. All 3 times I was in a treestand.

Finally I hunted from a ground blind. I had a jake 15 yards away. I drew undetected and the rest was easy. Ground blind all the way from now on.
