22 for turkey??
 

Did any one took a turkey with a .22 rimfire short or LR?
what is the recommended distence and shot placement for that??

distance and shot placement is (000000), not recomended!!!!
not to say you can't take one with a 22,lots of other game has been taken with it,but they are not recomemded for any big game. in some states it is illegal.

in most cases you will end up with a lost dead bird.it will die, but not right then unless it is a head hit.

get you a good shotgun,12,16,0r 20 ga.

I definately agree with Tree Climber - .22 is not a good idea. Stick with the shotgun, and even then, go for a head shot.

I agree with Tree Climber too.Callin birds in is the fun part.Shootin one is secondary.

I have to agree with everyone else ,a rifle is not the weapon of choice and especially not a .22 rimfire short to shoot turkeys. I believe some states do allow rifles but I would check with your state's game department before hunting just to be on the safe side . If I was going to use a rifle it would have to be very still and I would take a head shot but I wouldn't or won't so it really doesn't matter .Luck

Toons,as you can see by the posts the fun is how close we can call em in not how far we can shoot them!The thrill of foolin an ole longbeard in close and having him gobble &quot;in your face&quot;struttin and drummin his stuff as he works his way into your set-up will make any turkey hunters heart beat so loud you'll think ole gobblers gonna hear it!!!!Work on callin them in close my friend and you wont need a rifle, plus the thrill of being able to see the steam boil out of ole gobblers mouth as he gobbles to your calls can make the whole hunt worth while even if you dont pull the hammer on him!Aint nothing like Gobblin fever!!!Gilobbleobbleobble! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Guys i could't agree with you all any more,and thank god i had a good chance to take my fall turkey with a 12Ga. It was one clean shot to th head like what some of you adviced. As for the 22 just wanted to know if anyone tried it.
