if it is ok to shoot a turkey with a bow, why isnt it better to shoo it with a .22LR it has more energy and should be more humane, what is the difference in killing power, and the way it kills.

RE: .22
i TOTALLY disagree. yes a .22 bullet goes faster but is only like 30 grains at 1300 fps. try shooting a frikin turkey with one and ur screwed. bow is a lot better for them because it has more knockdown power, is challenging, and ur shooting a 400-500grain arrow at 315 fps. also if u cut the main artery of a turkey it will usually die in about 15 seconds. bow is definitely better and a lot more fun. .22s are for squirrels

RE: .22
22LrB,
Back about 30 yrs. ago, I tried turkey hunting with a 22 Magnum. I'm sure it could and would kill a turkey if you shot it in exactly the right spot on the body. However, I only tried for the head. I believe that the 22LR would kill one instantly with a head shot, but as I mentioned, I tried it 30 yrs ago and I was a lot steadier. Trust me, a head shot on a turkey is difficult under the best conditions. I personally wouldn't even attempt it today. dog1 |

If I were to try it, I would surely not do it on Public Land where there are other turkeyhunters, I would do it on Private Land. |
RE: .22
For one in most states its illegal to possess a rifle during turkey season. And the only way to kill a turkey wiht a .22 is in the head, thats a pretty small target. Youre better off withning nothing less than a .410 or a bow.

RE: .22
a .22 will blow a dime sized hole in it's head. believe me, it will.

RE: .22
