I have one and I love it. Easy to carry and shoots great patterns out to 35 yards. I put an Undertaker choke on mine and shoot the #5's Flitecontroll thru it. I also put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it and now I can shoot it all day without it hurting my shoulder. Do not be afraid of it, get the right choke/load combo and it will get the job done.

First season with it and it has 5 kills to it's credit. I love it. The short barrel is so nice when I'm crawling around or swingin the barrel in the bush to get a shot.
As far as performance I can say 35 yds is nothing! I upgraded to a Briley Hevi shot Turkey choke. Using Hevi-13 I have a 50 yd gun. I patterned out to 40 yds and had 130 plus in a 10 inch circle with 50 plus in the head with #6. I used to shoot the Winchester x-tended and they kick a lot more than the hevi-13. Even with that you only shoot 1 maybe 2 shots at a turkey a couple times a season at most. I don't worry about recoil too much. Never even hear the boom when I'm all pumped up with a bird in my sights.
Last bird of the season was killed at 49 yds and he dropped like a stone. 24.1 lbs of gobbler to boot.
I think it looks pretty too, especially when it's layin' over a big gobbler

You know as much as I love mine when I re-read your post I saw it was for your wife. I'd get a 20 guage if I was buying one for my wife. There is members on here who can atest to the effectiveness of their 20 guage set ups. You don't really give up anything at all if you get the right set up.

Thanks for the info all. I think well just have to work one into the budget.
Ontelk-thanks for the info and suggestions. My wife currently hunts with a 12 gauge without any probs. She keeps to mostly 2 3/4" rounds but we always seem to find a load to get the job done. Nice pics by the way scored my very first this year, as soon as i can figure out how to post a pic ill put some of mine up.

I won one at at NWTF banquet brought it home patterned it and was impressed right off the bat with it. Then, I loaned it to my son who was considering it or a Rem. 870 for his next purchase, well he used it and bagged his bird the first morning of spring gobbler here in Pa. I did get invited to dinner and got some of the bird but I havent seen my 1300 since.
I think he likes it. Oh well he would have wound up getting it sooner or later anyway.
