One that surprisingly sounded good on several of my calls was our 2-piece striker with an Aspen dowel. It has a sweet, soft sound that I expected to be way more flat. I'll have to try to turn a 1-piece before the NWTF Convention in February just to see how it sounds.

Bob , the thing about strikers is that any pot call user likes to play around with different woods to find something that stands out from the rest of the Flock sort of saying.

Bob, I have now found that Golden Bird in the flock. I could not believe my ears. I tried it on different surfaces and the sound that comes off of this striker stands out from the rest. I am very surprised with this new wood...BT

I like the ones that will work when wet. They may not produce the "best" sounding call but if you need to hunt when its raining and can't use a mouth call, carbon and glass baby.

Yep Adrian...I'm not one to carry a hundred friction calls to the turkey woods opting to take just two different surfaces with about 10 diffent strikers..Adrian I believe you might find Steve Harrisons work very interesting.IMHO he makes some of the finest sounding scratch calls out of some of theless familiar woods!Great calls that flat out fool turkeys...here ya go to check em out...

Thanks for the link Bob,

Here is a couple strikers that I think are going to slide right up in the favorites. Plum is what they are and I could not believe the sound of the tone. Very Crisp and clear with volume if you need it. They seem to handle the surface well for Flydowns and Cutting.I've tried a ton of strikers and have to say this did impress me...BT

Yup. I can comment on those strikers. I have had the pleasure of trying them out.

I had mentioned to Adrian about how sweet it sounded on the clucks and purrs. Like he mentioned I find a good striker is one which you can run a cutt and flydown cackle on. This is a tougher call to make with a pot call and if you have to "work" the striker across the surface to get the crisp sound it usually means this type of call doesn't work so well. The fast precise movement requires a good striker on the surface.

This one does work excellent BT. Man I was getting nice cackles with it. I originally said I like it on good old slate but I think this striker with my crystal is a winner.

I've just played with it but I'm going to use some of the other woods and see what it compares to. Need to get a few more strikers since I lost my usual amount this past season
