The end of a successful? season

No, I didn't get a bird in Wisconsin over the weekend,my season ended without filling a tag. But how does one measure success? It was my rookie year and I've seen so much. First day out alone and having two gibblers strutting 30yds behind me and I couldn't shoot cuz they were in the wildlife sanctuary and I was in the cornfield. Weeks later, tryng to belly crawl in the rain to a Tom in a cornfield, misjudging the distance and cleanly missing at 75yds(hey lay down in a cut cornfield and see what perspective does, I thought he was 45) not to mention realizing it's not easy holding a shotgun in the prone position! And just this weekend for the 6thseason in wisconsin watching a gobbler strut around at 80yds with six hens for a half an hour before leaving! Finding 2 1/2 lbs. of morels and a tiny newborn fawn. Reflecting back I've got to use what I've learned and hopefully next year I'll get one. Oh well , I'd call it a successful season wouldn't you? Well time to tune up the bow and start practicing cuz archery whitetail season will be here in 4 months. Oh I forgot about fall turkey season. How am I gonna be in two places at the same time?

I would say it was a successful season. Gaining knowledge of these smart birds is enough reward.

The harder you work and the harder the turkeys are to get the more you will respect them and apreciate them!!!!!

That's what its all about. Imagine all those folks who never hunt--think of all the "real life" they miss!!!!
