My season is over

Well, I finished off the season with another bird. Took a nice 18lb tom on tuesday. Had an 11 inch beard and 1,1/4 spurs. It was a last ditch, now or never shot at 47 yards. I have never shot one at that distance before and almost didn't on this one. I actually stopped andlowered down the gun twice before bringing it up and taking the shot the 3rd time. I have read alot of people taking birds at 50 plus yards and thought they were all blowing smoke. But I'll have to admit, after counting the long strides out to the bird, and having Jeanne (my wife)measure my strides with a tape measure, and doing the math, it was 47 yards. I knew it was long, but not that far out. Guess it made a believer out of me on those long shots. Thank goodness I tested and patterned differant loads out to 40 yards befor the season started. I don't think I would have taken the shot if I hadn't.I was using a Mossberg 500, with a 26"barrel, CompnChoke XXXFull Turkey choke, and #5Winchesters Supreme's in 3in.
I took a Jake on day 2 of the season. He was a gimme, and I never pass those up. Besides, they are the best eating.
My Son Brandon took his 2nd bird of his career during the youth season. It was a Bearded hen with an 8 inch beard. I posted pics of him.
So all in all, it's been a very successful spring season here in MO. I hope all of you have been as lucky as us here! Untill next time.................
