Gobblers in a 15 mph wind

Does a high wind hamper the gobbling and normal morning activity in your experience?

Yes, strong winds will often result in reduced gobbling. Also, birds will often work into either highly secluded (ie. thick and well-covered, like pine patches) or work fields.

Basically, the birds sense of hearing (like our own) is severely hampered by high winds, so they either move to quieter areas or to open areas with increased visibility.

With all of that said, I wouldn't consider 15mph winds strong enough to thwart gobbling activity, unless the winds are constant 15mph with stronger gusts upwards into the 20-25mph range.

most of the time YES......but depends on the area and how bad the wind actually is.....weather channels say i been hunting in 3-10mph winds all week...but i never really noticed much wind....yesterday was breezy..today a few little baby gusts blew the tree tops barely.....but when its WINDY windy...most times i noticed they are quiet....they cant hear predators or anything in the wind......or your calls

RE: Gobblers in a 15 mph wind

I gave up on my Wi season yesterday because the winds were sustained at 15mph+ with gusts up to 25mph and it was going to stay that way for a few more days. It was ridiculous. I never heard a single gobble in 1 day of scouting and 2 full days of hunting. I've NEVER been hunting even half a day without hearing a gobble before.
