what to do with spurs?
I have seen necklaces, but only have one set, do I need to do anything to preserve these things for a while till I get a few more?
Just cut thru with a fine toothed hacksaw, or does the area need to be de-boned? ![]() |
RE: what to do with spurs?
Dry them out. I dry mine first in the freezer, and then cut the bone on both sides of the spur. Then pop out the marrow from the leg bone. Then I plunk'em in hot soapy water for a few hours.Rinse & dry, and let set for a few days to completely dry out.
Then you can string themonto a leather shoe lace which is strung through the brass of a turkey load, that is stuffed with the end of a turkey beard. I saw the pix of this type of set-up in either a Turkey Call or American Hunter magazine. |

Joe's right , and you can also cut them off and place them in Borrax and let them sit, they'll dry. The legs will last for years in the freezer. I must have 90 pairs in there and I'm all the time getting yelled at to do something with them[:o]
90x2=180 Holly smokes thats a BIG neckless [8D]...BT |
RE: what to do with spurs?
Steal a bottle of clear nail polish from your girlfriend/wife. If you paint the spurs with clear polish, it really brings out the color, and they look nice and shiny. I made a nice spur necklace out of beads and leather.
Of course, since you look like a complete psychopath wearing the bone/spurnecklace, there's not much more you can do with it other than hang it up on the mantle. TIP: Don't let your girlfriend know that you took her polish, or what you're doing with it. She'll think you're totally insane, painting turkey fingernails. Make that an activity for when there's nobody around to see you doing it. ;) |
