Gobble Gobble
Well, I learned from mistake last week and took a different approach with my deeks. I went out to the very last tree in the point that sticks out into the middle of a huge field and setup there. There was no way the birdies were going to miss seeing my deeks this time around.
I turned to look over my right shoulder and at 300 yards 3 toms were standing there looking for love. I gave them a yelp with the box call and they came a running. They stopped about 50 yards in my rear and did a strange thing. Instead of walking around the point to get to the deeks, they moved in right behind me. I couldn't see them but I could here them purring and making all kinds of weird sounds. Finally one, then two and three flew across the ditch (about 5 feet from where I was sitting) that created the point and walked into the middle of the deeks. One to my left never came into view but the other 2 walked directly away from me. They didn't like the deeks and just kept walking away. One was in strut and I raised my gun to him. He just kept walking away in strut and was about to walk out of range so I gave him my best impression of an owl hoot and he stuck his head up. It has been a great year, saw lots of birds and tagged out. Good luck to everyone else. ![]() |
