Default Late Season Strategies

I will be hunting the late season here in Iowa for the first time, and was wondering what kind of strategies people have for late season gobblers.

When he started gobbling today, I made two sequences of calls, each sequence had 3 calls and the two sequences was 15 minutes apart. I then laid the call down and never made another sound, he came off the roost and strait to me.

I agree, less calling. I've hunted the second week of May several times. I've had no trouble calling birds, but with just a cluck or a yelp or two. Leave the 2-hens-and-a-jake at home. It's been done. Maybe a hen decoy, but then no calling.

Definately let up on the calling a bit from what you would do early season. I called one in friday morning, and had some working two days before but ran out of time. I just let out a series of yelps or 2 every 15 minutes of so. Good luck. The birds have been tough here in Iowa, what part of the state or you hunting?

Pick a spot on the edge of a green field and set out your lone hen decoy and tone down the calling
