Oh my goodness... I look at my 870 with a 28" barrel and extended choke tube and think its way too long for turkeys, but then I see this! That makes my gun look short!

Geez you dont even need shells, just get it close enough and swing your gun around, and... is that a benelli?

Yep, The old M1 Super 90....

I haven't had time to fill you all in on the details but I will eventually....anyway that is the plan. Just so much going on right now....

That's quite the barrel ,you must be using it to cross the creek or something like that .If you weld some step's on it ,you could use it to climb into your treestand.

Possible photoshop?? I really don't see the point of a barrel that long. I mean come on, it can't be possible to walk through the woods with that thing it would snag on every tree branch in the woods. Let alone it has to be ridiculously heavy. If it were mine it would have a date with Mr. Bandsaw.

Is that for real? If so, I'm in shock.

RE: If Size Matters.....

cabelas sells a 32" "metro barrel extention" i seen....maybe thats it?? it screws in your choke tube and only weighs like a pound or something like that....i forget what its for....i remember something about muzzle report was lower...and with special sub sonic loads it was WAY quieter.......dont know why youd use on for turkey hunting.....maybe better pattern....better velocity.....anyways...congrats on the turkey....

RE: If Size Matters.....

I believe you're right mauser06... the cabelas metro barrel extension is used for metropolitan areas where people hunt to "silence" the sound of the shotgun... it REALLY quiets them down. Do you know Benelli's Tom Knapp? He shoots one at his shows. It's just to keep down the public awareness of you hunting. Unless that's not what that one is... but it sure looks like one.

The "Super 90" meaning 90 inch barrell I bet! :D

That sure look's like Adrian and his famous Rem 870!! If you look closely, you can see where the "Bayonet" mounts to the end of the barrel!!:D

RE: If Size Matters.....

The pic is not "photoshopped";that is a real live functional barrel, All 55 inches of it, (depending on the brand of choke I put in.On another thread I believe I said 57 inches, sorry for the over sight).

It is in fact (as has been correctly pointed out) what they call a "Metro barrel" made by the Hasting company. I had seen Tom Knapp shoot with his andI was fascinated by what some of the writers said about the extension so I thought I would test one out for myself.

I have carried it fully assembledin the woods if I was going down a trail or out in the open, but normally I carry the 32 inch barrel in my hand and screw it on when I reach my destination. That part of it is no big deal.

The gun patterns better with the extension there is no question about it. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't turn the gun into a 60 yard killer, but it does pattern what I would term as noticeably better than with just the 21 inch factory barrel using the same loads and chokes.

It does quiet the turkey loads down at the shot; but it is still loud, there is no mistaking that the noise is a gun shot. Subsonic loads would be different story. I have been told it increases velocity but I have not tested that yet so I cannot comment on that aspect of the extension.
The thing I noticed the most was recoil. Big difference on these turkey loads with and without the extra length.

Then there are the advantages that some have pointed out already. The long barrel gives you a number of options on a turkey. For example if you don't want to waste a six dollar Nitro shell by squeezing the trigger;you can just "pistol whip" them as they walk by.:D
It can alsobe usedas a measuring stick as to the water level in creeks, and if the water is too high you use it as a pole vault to cross. ;)
If you ever run into one of "those" hunters that says "I'll show you mine if you show me yours", they are really impressed when you pull this baby out.;)It will put a stop to that game right now!

I am still working on that bayonet one...;)

The handicap with the exentsion of course is a major one. In a tight spot you don't have much maneuverablility with that long barrel sticking out front. Of course if you are creative you can overcome a lot of theissues ( If I get the story of my latest hunt done you will see what I mean).

It isn't something I would make a point of taking on every turkey hunt but I have had a blast playing with it both at home and in the turkey woods.

...Oh my goodness it is way past my bedtime.....I must say good night.....
