Got one! Now here is my question...
Ok so i slammed a tom on opening morning yesterday with a 8 1/2 inch beard, but i forgot to measure the spurs!I didn't think anything about it because i took it straight to a taxidermist to get the fan and the beard taken together because it was my first Tom and I like to do something with all of my "firsts"... ducks, deer, ect.
So how do i tally my score with out the spurs? Can anyone give me an estimate based of beard length or do they have no connection? I have a picture of the whole bird and myself if that would help anything but that is about all I got.
Hmmm... any ideas?
Thanks!

hmm... ok i will try and get him before he does anything. I am stopping by to get my meat monday so i will ask if they still have the rest of the bird around or if he measured them or could give me an estimate. Thanks for the idea!

He better have the rest of the bird around. I would be very concerned if he didn't.
There isn't any connection between beard length and spur length (except for juvenile birds). To score the bird in the contest you will also need the live weight - hope you got it before taking it to the taxidermist.
Withoutan accurately measured spur length, weight, and beard length measured to the 1/16 of an inch you really can't score the bird effectively. It would be a wild guess.

Wow, i am feeling really lucky. I called this morning right away just to make sure, and he had the full bird so he walked over to his scale and weighed it and measured the beard and spurs for me! I will post my numbers as soon as i find the sheet i put it on, ha ha.
