Lone Bird Question?
My hunt got cut short by a thunderstorm this morning. On the way back to the truck I saw a lone bird run into a small wooded area(10ac?). Not sure if it was a tom. was it a hen that has already bred and is nesting there? I don't want to spend much time on a hen. Going back out in 2 weeks any advice?

RE: Lone Bird Question?
andy...how longs your season been going on now??...if you didnt see the normal red, white, or blue colors common to a gobbler...and sometimes the head may be just red...all red...that being sported by a jake...best guess it was a hen...and depending on how long your season has been going on for now...she might just be looking for a place to nest...not actually going to one

RE: Lone Bird Question?
Also keep in mind a live hen is the best decoy going. She may bring in the tom you are looking for.

RE: Lone Bird Question?
Thanks, seasons a week old. I only saw a glimpse of the bird it dissapeared quickly. I thought I saw a beard,or not. It's a tough property to hunt with no access to most of the woods(DNR nature preserve) I'll give it some time next time I go out in 2 weeks. I know a live hen is the best decoy but if she alredy has been bread woul the tom still be interested?
