2 3/4 inch load
Does anyone hunt with a 2 3/4 inch load? Seems like they would do the job just as well as a 3 inch.

RE: 2 3/4 inch load
If they are close enough the only way you can tell the difference is on your end of the gun. :D
I shot some 2 3/4 Winchester supreme eliteextended range the other day and it performed very well. 1 1/2 ounces of shot with much less recoil than aregular 2oz.3 inch turkey load. However, it should be mentioned that as the "target" moves downrange there is a noticable difference in performance (3" vs 2 3/4") in most guns. Not at all unexpected when you consider the differences in the payload of the shell. |
RE: 2 3/4 inch load
I know many that hunt with them and have great success.

RE: 2 3/4 inch load
I like the 2 3/4
I am 46 and my sholder just don't take the Bang of the hotter shells like it did when I was in my 20's LoL Just think about this our past hunters didn't even have 2 3/4 loads they had black powder Shot guns with much lighter loads and they killed the turkeys just fine. So if 2 3/4 is what works for you then more power to you. The 3 and 3 1/2 is just fine for them that like them. But for me and my old sholder I like the 2 3/4. Plus a box of 2 3/4 shell's is cheaper than a $500.00 gun LoL JMHO Good Luck |

RE: 2 3/4 inch load
Rochelle, I have been doing it for over 50yrs and I go shoot my bird and come home. Never have I shot one over 20-25yds. If and when I can't call them within that range anymore, I'll go to Publix and buy one from then on!:)
Over the years, I have spent many hours sitting in the woods without a weapon, practicing the calls. Do the same with the quail. But like I mentioned before, to each his own!:)I'm not telling pepole this is the way, I'm saying it's my way! Millionsof turkeys have been takenwith paper 2-3/4" shells before the plastic Extended Range, Mag Loads and Hevy-Shot 3" and 3-1/2" shells were introduced. IMO, it's turning into a Turkey shoot instead of a Turkey hunt! But then again, to each his own. |
RE: 2 3/4 inch load
I plan on buying some to try. I can handle the recoil of larger loads but if I can save $by shooting the 2 3/4 loads why not:eek:

RE: 2 3/4 inch load
I hunt with 2 3/4 as well. Modified choke.I shot at a Mountain Dew can sideways at 30 yds with Wincherster turkey loads . Number 4s. I got 7 pellets in the can. It's a 2" circle. I was standing and might have done better with a rest.
