What is the effective range of a 20 guage gun? Id think the light weight action would be great for runnin and gunnin!

I was just patterning a Charles Daly field model pumper with an Undertaker choke the other day with various shot , the max effective range for all was 30 yards . Tested were 3" 1.25 OZ. #4 , 2.75" 1 OZ. #6 , and 2.75" 7/8 OZ. #7.5 shot , all patterned well enough for a kill .

Depending on the pattern you are able to get, I'd say as much as maybe 40 yards. You'd just have to pattern it with different loads and choke tubes. Inside of 25 yards, she's gonna be just as effective as a 12 gauge.

My daughter's rem 870 youth shoots a deadly pattern out past 35 yards with a .566 hastings tube and Federal #6 turkey loads. I picked up a Tightwad choke and some Rem. Hevishot #6 and I'll see if we can stretch it out a few more yards. I'm still waiting to pattern the new combo.

i went turkey hunting with two friends and one of their younger brothers. the brother showed up with his 20 ga and size 8 shot. it was great.

Keep it under 30, and be dead on.
