Weather & Turkey Guestion ?
 

This time last year the turkeys were out and strutting.
This year I haven't see any.
The weather was warm a few weeks ago.
But the last few weeks its been 28s & 30s in the morning.
50s in the afternoon.
Would this sudden cold snap cause them to delay,
Strutting and just getting to there normal pattern?

Same thing is happening here. Last year this time i had birds pattern to a T, this year i havnt seen anything on my spots. They just started gobbling a week ago. Although, yesterday i was at my uncles and passed a field with some birds. The Jakes are strutting hard core, with hens, and the Toms are kind of staying off to the side but still strutting a little. If the weather stays like it's suppose to, im sayin another week and a half before strut kicks in hard.

I myself dont believe the cold stops the toms from gobbling or strutting. Right now its 34 degrees here in Indiana and my turkeys here at home are gobbling and strutting like crazy. This has been going on for weeks now. They know what time of year it is. Just my thoughts

I find the turkeys in my area when it gets to be cold and warm off and on they seem to gobble and strut but they seem to stay in the bush more

If it is raining go to a field. If it is windy move to a draw or thick woods. I don't think the cold bothers them that much.

I do not think the cold bothers them much either I think length of day is what turns them on what does everyone else think? I also think they like to strut in the early morning sunshine and also after a rain when the sun pops out look for strutters in fields and forest openings

I agree ULTI. Here is one thing to think about also, just because you see birds strutting doesn;t mean the hens are ready to breed, of course this might not apply inthe warmer states where the seasons are in.

it was 29 degrees here this morning and i missed a gobbler at 6.15 there were three strutters breeding about twenty hens, our season here opened a week earlier than usual,i have called 19 diffrent longbeards to within 60 yards in the past 4 days and with the exception of tis morning they were all strutting and togetherin pairs without hens. birds here gobble best on cold clear mornings this time of year here plus they all seem to congregate in swamps and creek bottoms,i actually beleive some think they have webbed feet. i guess they congregate there because the bottoms are the first places to green up.

i agree with everyone...the weather doesnt make much of a difference...and i've always thought the same as ultramag, that being the length of daylight is a big factor in the turkeys movements and actions. The colder temps might make the turkeys a bit lethargic but i'm sure they're still in their transitions the same as last year.

I, also, have seen less strutting, and heard no gobbling yet. Last two years, I had already seen many toms, and heard lots of noise and activity. Strange this year! Very quiet!
