Federal Flight Control with Ported chokes?
I have been shooting the federal flight controls out of my 835 with a ported choke tube, but ive heard recently that if you use this shell with a ported tube you defeat the whole purpose. I guess the ported tube slows down the wadding and the flight control is suppose to stay with the shot. Anyone know anything about this. To be honest my gun patterend the best with them even with the ported tube, just wondering if it would be better if it were not ported.

RE: Federal Flight Control with Ported chokes?
I know I have suggested before that the Federal FliteControls are best without ports, but I will admit I am basing this on the opinion of a friend, so you could argue that it is a "he said she said" kinda situation.
It seems logical that they would do best without ports, but then again the 835 comes standard with ports so who the heck knows... If you have a good pattern with a ported choke then get out there and kill with it...only way you will know for sure:) |

I think it was in turkey and turkey hunting mag that Jay Langston brought up that question and was going to test and research but i have not seen anything since

RE: Federal Flight Control with Ported chokes?
I sent email to the company asking about ported barrels. It should not effect the flite control. It is the ported tubes, designed to strip the wad away that will effect it. The ports in the barrel allow gasses to escape!

All I know is that thus far they outshoot all the other shells on my ported XXX-Full comp n choke in my stoeger 2000. I know they aren't supposed to but they do. ;)

RE: Federal Flight Control with Ported chokes?
I read the samething in Turkey and Turkey hunting.
A couple of weeks ago I shot Flight controls thru a Tru-Glo gobble stopper non-ported, and my Carlson ported tube. I use the Carlson all the time. My pattern was better thru the Carlson. I'm sticking with my Carlson and the Flight controls. During this little test the wads out of each traveled the same distance down range. For what it's worth. |
RE: Federal Flight Control with Ported chokes?
I have alsoread in Turkey and Turkey hunting that there not for ported tubes but I tried some in my 870 supermag w/Jellyhead choke and #5 shot ,got 120+ in a 10 inch circle @40 yards. I intend to check it out further in the next 1-2 weeks, will let you know.

To: Prodserv Subject: Federalcartridge.com - Ask the Expert Form Jeffrey Moore LAwton OK Was looking on some Hunting forums and it was mentioned that it is recommended that Flight Control loads should not be used with ported barrels or ported choke tubes. Wondering if this is so? Thanks Jeff Moore -----Original Message----- From: Prodserv [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, February 20, 2006 8:04 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Federalcartridge.com - Ask the Expert Form I have seen them work in Ported and Unported bbls.It will vary depending on the firearm.forcing cone.choke system. Optimal results were in non ported of .665-.670 restriction and they definitely should not have a wad stopper feature. [8D] |
