RE: When to set up blinds?

ORIGINAL: ceallagh_guy

Hello,
I am novice turkey hunter (about 4 years) and I have a question. I find that when setting up blinds (on public land) I am making alot of noise, or at least more than I would like. I worry about setting up a blind the night before, as it might be taken the next am. How do you guys deal with this problem? Do you have any tips/tricks? I feel it is helpful to cut shooting lanes and lay some brush down in a chosen spot when choosing my spot the day before, but beyond that?

Thanks!
I've got a blind but only tend to use it in the Fall for hunting turkeys with the bow not so much in the Spring. If I use it on a Spring hunt I'm usually setting it up in a field or on the edge so clearing brush isn't an issue for me. I don't feel if you're in the woods you don't need a blind! way to much stuff to use as cover. Those small folding stake blinds work like a charmfor that as many have already posted. I also try and get in as early as I can!Doesn't matter ifI'm blind hunting or not, it never hurts to be the first one in :D

A trick I like to use if I'm worried about making noise is a grunt tube! Take one along with you and if you're making a lot of noise getting to your spot or setting up your blind hit the grunt tube a few times. As long as it's still dark! the turkeys will think you're just another one of it's wildlife friends.

I started using it after I was out roosting in the evenings and had turkeys fly from one roosting tree to the one I was sitting under. Had to sit there for a long long time before moving out and even then, I was afraid of spooking them. Having a grunt tube, covered my escape or set up many times.

Other than having to carry another call in your vest!it wouldn't hurt it give it a try. Goodluck
