Music to my ears......

The spring weather snap has arrived in upstate New York....
Daytimes highs in the mid-50's and lows at night in the high 30's and 40's have no doubt lifted everyones spirits.
This morning, I awoke at 5am to the sound of geese (they were so loud I thought at first it was coyotes in the backyard).
Since I had gotten to bed at ten, I arose, made a cup of coffee, opened the door and listened to the geese...
Then, it happened...

A blast from about two hundred yards away, that sound that every turkey hunter loves to hear.
Another a minute later, answered by another, and another.
I sipped, and smiled:)

The birds are gobbling in New York!

There really is something special about that first gobble of the year that you hear, even though season may still be a long ways off.

Just thought I would add this in.
On my way to work this morning, I glance at the farm that I just got permission to hunt, over 1500 acres in total between this farm and the next.
Prime turkey habitat.
What do I see?
About 60 birds, hens yelping away.
Out of those 60 birds, I counted 12 strutters, all mature birds.
I curse myself for not having my binoculars, and for leaving my calls at home.
Then, I look at my car horn. I roll down the window, turn off the car, and give two toots on the car horn.
Gobbles echo from every direction...
Four back to back, then another, then another....
I wait, do it again, and the same thing happens...
Honestly, I had forgotten how happy I got just hearing a bird gobble.
Was running a little late to work, so I had to drive on.
I gave the birds one last look, picked one strutter, and told him I would be seeing him on May 1st:D
