Yes, I have heard quite a few different people say that. I have also heard that the DNR wants a good bit of hens knocked up before we have at them. I don't know how many turkeys are in your area, but where I own, there aren't too many and any help they can get to breed and multiply is a big plus.

Randolph county Elkins season needs to open about 2 weeks earlier. there are not a lot of birds in our county very mountainous and we had some hard winters a couple years ago turkeys are just now starting to make a comback here

Beckley here, and yes the turkey numbers have been on the decline for about 4yrs now. Bad winters, combined with an exploding coyote population have really hammered our flock numbers.

As for our season coming in to late, truth be told its all about the cash. The other states around us come in 1 to 2 weeks earlier, that way many out of state hunters come to WV for opening day.

But it is what it is. DNR makes the decisions and we have to live with them.

KT, Tell your brother I need to learn about trapping them. Might need some pointers. Never trapped them before but I would love to learn how.

I'm originally from right outside of Beckley. Shady Spring to be exact. I have been in the Air Force for a little over 10 years now. I've got alot of family that has land in Abraham. I used to turkey hunt alot out in Shady and Cool Ridge. I'm stationed out in Missouri now, don't get much better for turkeys that here. I love to coyote hunt, but WV DNR needs to re think the whole night hunting gun regs. Need something bigger than a .22. But I come home at least once a year, and I still consider WV home. 10 more years and I'll retire and come back.

I'm in NHand have been hunting WV for the last 10 yearsoutside ofthe Morgantown area.Use to start off the season in the Dolly Sods area but since have moved up to our deer camp. As far is the season being late? It's been that way for almost 3 or 4 years now! Seems like evey year the hunting is getting harder and harder to get a gobbler to respond.

I hunt Grant County as well. Know where Dolly Sods is. Some rough
country around there. My home is 3 miles from from the state line.
