Custom Strikers

Which do you prefer factory strikers or custom strikers?

The difference in strikers that make or break a pot call is the type of wood that is in the striker. Most exotic wood strikers wook well on most surfaces. Custom strikers are on the most part made of these woods and make a big difference. Some companies like QuakerBoy have a few strikers that are made of exotic woods and also are very nice to use. The problem with these strikers are that they have been made with a rounded tip and need some tuning up to make them work better on your different pot calls. I take sand paper and flaten the tip so that there is a edge on the tip of the striker to work with. This makes it much easyer to cluck, cut and cackle on the call with the striker.

The best striker form that I like is a small mushroom tip striker. Very easy to work the call and the edge works for most calls that need to be made...BT

BT is right on the money!Match a good striker to the right surface and you'll be able to sing some pretty good turkey talk!Vise versa here also match the right surface to a good striker and the results the same!I agree Rob,playing with both can surprisingly produce some good tones. For myself I like american frictions tiplit striker.Produces all the sounds I need to match the surfaces I use.Heres a looksy.....
