Hey there longbeardbuster,

I'm absolutely a member. In fact, I used to work there for almost 7 years. I was editor of Turkey Call for several of those years and a managing editor for the others.

Like any place you work or that you are a member of you, you won't always agree with what they are doing. I hear treeclimber's complaint and understand it. But overall, you can't argue with the success they have had in promoting turkey hunting, increasing turkey populations so we have more birds to hunt and trying to improve hunting access so there are more places to hunt.

While the NWTF isn't the sole reason all this good stuff has been happening, they have been a lightening rod in getting it moving in many states as without a little push, help in funds and assistance in coordinating conservation efforts, many state agencies are stretched thin on people and resources and can't get it done by themselves. You should definitely join.

A good fringe benefit is if you get involved, you'll probably meet some pretty good turkey hunters who you can oneday share hunts with.

Good luck.

Was a member basically from it's very beginning until last year..1975 or so until 2005, 30 year veteren is a long time to be part of any organization...reason for dropping out was "their" support of the two bird spring gobbler limit, without which I feel would have never passed. Two, three or four is a nice idea in most states, but not here in PA..350'000 vulture ambusherswith 2 tags, hopefully we won't be in the same boat as the deer hunters in 3 years..I still feel it does more than any other organization out there, but it's just a matter of principle in my case..the PGC has promised them, but not in writing some cash to fund their Grand Plan number whatever..them refusing to earmark the monies in writingwould have sent a signal to me, we'll see in the long run..hope I'm wrong and we're not in the same boat as out deer herd shortly...

I am a member , but have had my issues as well. The thing that really bothers me is the lack of stories or articals that are Canadian content. I was told one time that No one in Canada will spend the time to write , so last year I sent in the story about my wife and the problems she over came in one month and was still successfull on the very last day. I thought this would inspire a lot of people that have or had problems that worked against the sport they enjoyed. Not one Dam word of the story from them. That really eats away at someone that was one of two people that started this organization in this Country, believe me...BT

Join. The more you put into it, the more you'll get out.

BT...I understand your concerns. I hope it's just a matter of the relative newness of Canadian turkey hunting in your case.

RE: NWTF members?

I answered a flyer from the NWTF last year asking for people to help out in the community. I thought I would be doing stuff with their habitat, helping release birds, etc. Ended up starting a new chapter in our area. So now I'm the new banquet chairman for the Lincoln County (South Dakota) chapter and we're having our first banquet in 2 weeks.

Working on this has been great, though. I just hope we can put together a decent banquet and get something good going for our area. There's already3 or 4great banquets established within about a 20 mile radius, so I'd hate to be the weak link in the chain.
