Whats your favorite camo?

I just started turkey hunting last spring, i was low on money so i bought the cheapestcamo jacket thati could. That jacket doesnt blend in with anything! if anything it sticks out more than it blends in. Does anyone have any preference in camo patterns?i think im gonna go with realtree hardwoods hd green, but if anyone has a pattern that they think is better let me know.

Natural Gear or Nat Gear for short. It blends in with anything and it doesn't stand out like a black blob from a distance. It can be used in spring and fall. If I'm not wearing nat gear then I'm wearing Mossy Oak Obsession. It has just enough green in itfor early or late season. These are just my preferences. As long as you sit still just about any camo pattern will do fine.

You don't need that many patterns. Nat Gear will work in every situatuion spring or fall, but that's up to you if want to wear a different pattern for each situation.

Superstrutter has the same thoughts as I do, one camo pattern for everything. My choice is Predator Deception. I've found this works great where I live for everything, including turkeys. If you get the camo that looks like real trees, leaves, etc... then you may need many different patterns for the terain or season. I'm not saying the other camo isn't good, just my preference for the more open patterns. Predator, Nat Gear, and ASAT.

I really like realtree hardwoods green. Mobu is too dark in my opinion. But if you just be still any camo works.

It's not like that, I just buy whatever is cheap at the end of each season when things go on sale. Wal-Mart is especially good about marking prices down to get rid of excess inventory. I probably have too much, but when a pair of pants is 5 bucks, I just grab 'em.

Why would you want to look like a Mossy oak when you could look like a Real tree ;)

Over the years I have played with a number of different patterns and have found that Realtree blends into areas better then most. In Black and White context RealTree looks more real then any other pattern on the market. Camo patterns work well when you can match the area colours you plan on hunting and seasons also fall into this same catagory. If your area has alot of green in the season , then hardwoods green is the way to go. If you have a northern climate and the woods start off in dall colour the Realtree Hardwoods HD is a better choice to start the season off. Hunters that spend most of their time in the plains would be better to use a pattern such as the new Max 1 pattern.

By mix matching your patterns you will find that you will blend into an area much better then dressed all in the same pattern. Take a walk in the woods and look into an area of where you would setup and study the color context in a 3 foot high area. You will find that the area changes in the couple of feet as sticks and ground colour is different from 3 feet off the ground.

It all boils down to the area you intend to hunt. If you have the money spend the money in a couple cover ups that are cheeper and match the seasons. Garments can range in different prices but the cheeper cloths can still do the job that you are after and can last if properly looked after. All ways turn your cloths inside out to wash them and you will notice that the patterns will last for years...BT

Good points everyone. I would venture to guess that color matters a little more with turkey than deer. What do y'all think?

Let me say this again ASAT one pattern matches all of your hunting seasons, you will not be dissapointed in theis camo. It is an unfair advantage vs. the animals.

I normally wear Mossy Oak Obsession, but once in a while I'll go with Realtree Hardwoods Green.

Hardwoods Grey with a little Hardwoods HD Green thrown in as the buds and leaves begin to show. I built a ghilly top thats a hooded pull-over. Its light weight, matchs the Hardwoods Grey, and is easy to slip on and off.

I sat motionless in a black folding chair once as a large flock of turkeys walked by oblivious to my prescence , I was wearing ordinary Woodland camo at the time .

This year while reviewing pics from my trail cam I made the discovery that the 3 color desert Army BDU pants that I was wearing virtually disappeared into the foliage in one pic that I accidentally shot of myself while I was checking a scent dripper . Apparently , the pattern closely approximates the dappled sunlight on foliage effect common to the woods I live in . I have a Henley shirt in the same pattern , I may wear them for the Spring season this year .

Moral of the story:
It doesn't have to be expensive to work .

RE: Whats your favorite camo?

it doesn't matter what brand or design as long as it matches the woods you are hunting in. One thing i do is mix and match. I don't buy my camo by brand. Some of the cheap designs at Walmart are just as effective.

Camo patterns are like fishing lures. the variety is more for the hunter than it is for the fish.

as long as you are camoflaged from head to toe and it matches your surroundings you are good to go. the most expensive or newest is not always the best.
