Which is the better gun between the remington 1187 or the stoger 2000?

I have no experience with the 1187, but a friend of mine had a stoeger. We finally found a used extra full choke for it and it shot an AWESOME pattern at 40 yards -- 45+ pellets in the head/neck at that range.

just like daveh but a lil different i have used the 1187 but have not used the stoger .i think the 1187 is a great gun .i would think that anyway i currently use a 870 so i'm fond of remingtons .

I am a big fan of remingtons and have shot an1187. But I have also shot a stoeger 2000. Depending if you are going to only turkey hunt only or not. I shot 100 low brass dove shells through a stoeger and it never jamed. It also patterned very well. The 1187 is also a very good gun that patterns very well but is a bit more costly. But you will have a better selection of aftermarket products. But still if I was you I would go with the Stoeger 2000.

I've had both. My uncles all have remingtons so I grew up shooting them. I would say hands down the Stoeger is the better gun. Lighter, less felt recoil, comes with 5 chokes, fits me better, and after cycling it with Turkey loads it will shoot all skeet loads. There really isn't one thing I don't like about my Stoeger 2000.

I agree with the above that the stock turkey choke isn't the greatest but it will put at least 20pellets in the head and neck.

I have even won a couple of trap competitions with it.

Oh one last thing, I clean my Stoeger after I shoot it but it is essentiall a waste of time. It is the cleanest shooting gun that I own. No gas is great!

I grew up shooting Remingtons my whole life,, and I own almost exclusively Remington guns,, and I do love them, I own an 1100 and an 11-87, and a couple 870s, all are great shooting guns, and each has a purpose. Recently I went to a store that sold Stoegers and looked at one for the first time. I bought one, because I was looking for a semi-auto camo turkey gun, and I love it, more than I could have imagined,, It shoots great and as others have said, it is lighter and has less recoil that the 11-87, and will cycle any shell you put through it, even if I change them up and shoot heavy loads and light loads one after the other,, it wont jam, and functions flawlessly. My remington autos will jam from time to time, and one wont eject light loads at all, no matter what I do, I will always be a Remington fan, but the Stoeger will be with me when I go to the woods, especially for turkey. I did pattern it with the factory choke, and as someone said it does ok, but am going to order a Comp-N-Choke for it as I have been told they are great.

What choke and loads do you guys use? Will benelli chokes fit it?

I don't shoot turkeys unless they are pretty close within 30 yards. So I just use the choke that it comes with. I don't know if Benelli chokes will fit it but I would guess yes if you I was forced to guess. Only because other things that I have bought for it (sights) say Benelli/Stoeger.

The loads that I use are the Winchester #4, #5. Federal #5's printed pretty good too
