Spring - don't fall hunt anymore - just too many other birds to chase...

Justin..you should know that the spring hunt is better than the fall..or should i say easier than hunting fall birds. They gobble for u in the spring making them easier to locate. In the fall they all flock together, the hens in there own flock...usually 20 or more birds and jakes with flock with the hens for a while but they will eventually break off and form their own flock. Toms will form their own flock..usually 8 or less birds. Some jakes will be mixed in with them also but they will be theleast dominant of the flock.

RE: which season is better?

If you guys don't know Mr. Longbeard is the official judge of "who is' and "who isn't" a turkey hunter. He has been for years on this message board at least. I 've never fall hunted, but hopefully one day I will because I want to be a REAL turkey hunter REALLY BAD.

By the way, they've had a week long either sex season here for the last 3 years and I've gone a total of ZERO times. Turkey hunting is about the spring weather andthe gobbling and strutting for me. But then again, I'm not a real hunter yet.

the sounds and behavior ofa turkey in the spring is better but the bugs are worse. if you want to see some spooky turkeys try fall hunting. i do both and i love both ways. you'll learn a lot if you chase them in the fall and that can help you in the spring

Spring definitely. Fall is a hit and miss, or being in right place at the right time! [8D]

love'um both! Each has thier attractions. To wit:
Spring
1. After a long winter, it's just great 2b in the woods that smells of fresh renewal.
2. The mating gobble of the wild turkey. It simply harkens me back to a bygone era of ourwildernessas we take the baton from ourearly settlersand continue the battle!
3. Im off work for three weeks.
4. Winters 7 months away!
5. Mushrooms
FALL to wit:
1. After a long summer, the frosty air of late October is refreshing.
2. Hearing a gobble remands one back to spring.
3. All the spring turkey hunting pro's are busy elsewhere, leaving prime turkey hunting world to me!
4. Springs only 6 months away!
5. The beauty of aforementioned October woods is unequaled!

RE: which season is better?

I as well love them both...I love to hear the thunderous gobbles of the spring season, I love to battle a hen while a gobbler sounds off in the background but I too love busting a flock of young fall turkeys and hearing the woods ring beautiful keekees, whistles and yelps. They both have their place in my memories of hunts past....If I had to give one up, it would be fall however I'd hate that to happen.

I do agree, hunting, busting and calling back in fall gobblers is a challenge.
