Winchester 1300
I have a Winchester 1300 and was wondering what choke had a better pattern for turkeys. Also what type of load would you recommend for me. I am new to the sport and cant wait till this season kicks in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Winchester 1300
I also have a Win. 1300 and use an Undertaker Choke tube. It works great. However, the pattern starts getting scetchy at about 40-50 yards. I have never missed a turkey at 50 yards though. I also use Remington Hevi-shot #6. If you shoot towards the body, you'll probabably just make the turkey angry as their feathers are very strong. You'll want to aim for the head and neck area. Good luck this year, you'll become addicted quickly!!

RE: Winchester 1300
I have been using a Hastings choke .655" with Win Supremes # 6's in 3".
Just today, the gun shop owner that I do business with let me bring home 3 Kick's chokes in .655", .660", and .665". I am going to try them with the Win Extended 3" # 6's to see which patterns best this weekend. I will postthe results as soon as I get done. |
RE: Winchester 1300
I shot the Win Extended 3" 1.25 oz shot in the Hastings .655",
and the Kicks .655" and .660". The Kicks .655" shot a tighter pattern than the other 2. I am still going to try and tighten it a little more. The gun shop that I go to is going to order some more Kicks and they are going to geta .650" Kicks for me so I can try it. I will post again after I get to try it out. |

RE: Winchester 1300
I've been using the 1300 NWTF since the first run of them..way back in the 80's to early 90's....great little guns..lightweight, reliable...when the first super chokes came out back about 20 years ago I bought one of the Hastings super extended....655 dia, bought some Federal 2oz #5's and have never changed a thing since..tons of turkey in 17 different states have been killed by that gun and I would not change or trade it for anything-nothing..I had a client once that I did some little favors for and he/she bought me one of those camo'ed Benelli semi's..I accepted it and then traded it in without ever firing a shot from it..why, because I knew it would never make it into the field over that little 1300 NWTF...a second run of them has hit the market but only in certain areas of the country..Grice gun shoppe in Clearfield Pa has some at around $350 or so..these are the blue, green, red laminates..YOU don't need 3 1/2 under any condition..just shoot em on paper for yourself..you'll see!

RE: Winchester 1300
Another Winchester 1300 owner and shooter here!!!
I have tried over the years a Hastings, NU-line, Kick's, Tru-Glo, and a Rhino choke out of my gun. Along with a very good assortment of the various turkey loads on the market. The best choke/shell patterns were with these two: (1) Tru-Glo Strutstopper sized .665, while using the Winchester 3" HV 1 3/4oz of #5's. (2) Rhino Choke sized .660 while usingNitro1 7/8oz of 4X5X7plated hevishot.;) ![]() |
