Illegality?? Question....

I live in Michigan, soI knowthelaws may vary through different states.

If it is out of turkey season, and you are in NO possesion of any weapons, is it legal to call in and experience the turkey's in their natural state? I konw this may be a stupid question, because I figure, you can sit in your tree stand year round' without getting in trouble.

I ask this because I found an area with alot of turkey's on it but I won't be able to hunt them during season. I want to better my calls and my experience with turkey's. What do you guys think?

It's legal here , but a lot of turkey hunters discourage out of season calling because they feel that it makes the birds call shy later .

I had a DNR come up to me in Iowa while i was blowing my goose calland tell me that calling geese out of season is animal harassment. I do it anyway that is BS. Go out and call those turkeys to try to better yourself, just dont have any weapons on you, not even a pocket knife. Have fun, and good luck during the season.

I've done it a lot here in Iowa. No reason it shouldn't be legal IMO. Maybe check the regulations first but you should be alright. Have fun and try to get some good pictures to share with us!!

I do not like to call at turkeys in my hunting areas I hate to see other people doing it I like to observe them from afar with binos interacting amongst themselves you can learn allot by listening and looking as far as areas you will not be hunting that is up to you I agree with Mr. LOngbeard

Well...actually, here in ky, beginning the first of March, it is illegal to mimmick, call, or try to entice a turkey using the know sounds of a turkey until the beginning of the spring turkey season( April 15th).

Here's a good way to practice:
Go over to a fellow turkey hunter's house at daybreak (on a workday) and start calling. If he comes out with a cup of coffee in his hand you need more practice, if he comes out with a shotgun you're good to go!

I absolutely agree with Mr.Longbeard here.Know questiona fella could learn playing with the birds but the problem is and dont kid yourself the birds learn too.Now days with the # of hunters taking to the woods and squawking and talking on everything known to man public ground is nothing more than a playground to the wood be turkey hunter.Pressure drives these birds silent and worse yet into areas we aren't allowed to be or cant hunt in general.Etticate plays a role here too and unfortunately has slowly become a thing of the past!:(Theres plenty of video and DVD's to play with IMHO available to todays modern turkey hunter to take advantage of rather than stirring up your or someone elses woods! There are places to call and take pictures of the birds such as parks, private residential areas with no hunting and what not but huntable ground whether you hunt it or not I would personally stay out of...To each his own Bob...
