Small Woods Turkeys
Im hunting some very small patches of woods. We know the turkeys roost in these woods. Is it worth going in the small patches of woods which are about 10-15 acres and hunting or would it be better hunting some where close to the woods?

RE: Small Woods Turkeys
Some of the best places I have to hunt are very small privatepieces (20 acres)that the birds pass in and out of!Sure it limits your mobility but I'm not a big run and gunner to begin with!If I believe they will be there I dont care how small the piece of ground is I'll wait em out!

I would scout the area and find where they fly down in the mornings and go from there.

RE: Small Woods Turkeys
Preseason scouting should show you where they go after deroosting
Doesn't sound like a spot for moving around too much or u could buger them up![]() |

it the turkeys are using the small acres of woods, regularly, with scouting shouldn't have a problem taking one of them,i'd hunt just out from the woods in the morning, and just inside the woods in the evening.

RE: Small Woods Turkeys
I regularly hunt only a 15 acre area...limit out each year. In the woods or on the edge, it works. I know where they roost and pattern their travel routes. It can be done. Tony!

RE: Small Woods Turkeys
Yeah it would be worth it! It could be great hunting, especially if you know they are roosted in there. Just be careful not to bump them off the roost in the morning.

RE: Small Woods Turkeys
around here hunting small pieces of land can be hit or miss....guess because they get smart to pressure quick and hit diffrent food sources ect.....sometimes they are there.....sometimes they arent.....sometimes they roost here.....sometimes they roost there....not as predictible as some turkeys ive seen.....but i guess on smaller pieces of land they have to be a little mobile to eat ect....ive had some awesome hunts on small pieces of land.....but im a run n gunner...i kinda hate it because if the birds arent talkin im not having as much fun as i could be and i gota run to my truck and DRIVE to the next spot lol....i like the big woods....ill run n gun allllllllll day till noon(quitting time) one bird falls silent and doesnt show in a certain aloted time span ill try one more time to fire him up....then im running the ridge looking for his brother! i know i miss out on alot of birds...i come back to find they were there...or stand up tohere PUTT PUTT PUTT once in a while...im starting to learn when to sit tight longer.....sometimes i just know its not worth it...and to me turkey huntings all about the music and excitment of working a hot bird....sure i hunt the fly down hard.....but after that i like to be on the move.....but you sit still on them small pieces all morning and your bound to bag your bird.....sometimes they dont go far...they just shut up so their girls dont get mad...and they come running in to you later
