FIRST OF ALL, I SHOOT A MOSSY 835. I USE REMINGTON NO #4'S. THERE IS NOT A TURKEY SAFE UNDER 50 YARDS. I HAVE NEVER LOST A TURKEY. I HAVE KILLED MY FAIR SHARE. ALSO, BERETTA390, IF YOU MISSED A TURKEY WITH YOUR MOSSBERG, IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. NOT THE GUN'S. I DONT KNOW IF YOU JUST DIDNT PATTERN IT OR WHAT. BUT THAT IS PRETTY BAD. TO ALL YOU GUYS THAT SHOOT 3 INCH SHELLS, YOU ARE FOOLS FOR NOT SHOOTING REMINGTON'S 4x6'S. HAS ANYBODY SHOT THIS SHELL? C'MON GUYS, YOU CALL YOURSELF TURKEY HUNTERS. THE ONLY REASON I DONT SHOOT THEM NOW IS THAT THEY DONT MAKE IT IN 3 AND A HALF. PLEASE REPLY.

gobblestopper, first off, I have tried and patterned those Remington 4X6 shells out of my guns, and they don't pattern worth a Hoot!!! Each turkey gun, choke, and shell shoots different!!! To come out and make a statement that "If you don't shoot 4X6's your a fool" is a joke!! My guns love those Winchester 3" 1 3/4oz of #5's out of a Tru-Glo choke. Will this shell shoot great out of your gun, I don't know!! But I'm not going to say your a fool if you don't shoot them!! What works for you is great, and what works for everyone else is great too!! I haven't had any problems getting my birds and by god I don't even shoot those 4X6's, I must be pretty lucky!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Gobstopper, welcome to the forum, pretty bold statements that your making their.Understand that your talking to some guys here that I garruntee been huntin turks long before you have,so I'd think I'd show a little respect in the way in which you express yourself and a lot of the guys will do everything they can to give you their own experiences and try and help out.Thats if you think you might need it of course! The question I have if those 4x6's are so good that your preaching about why in the hell aren't you using them and shootin a 3 1/2.20 years ago I turkey hunted with a 12 gauge also, and when those duplex loads came out I patterned them against what I was using at the time which was #6 Fed 2ounce super mags. The Fed outshot the Duplex's by about 10%.Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works the best in everybody elses gun, like Maytom said.I shoot a 3 1/2 inch myself and Winchester loads are about worthless out of it,but Remingtons pattern exceptibly.I shoot my own reloads now out of my Ithica mag 10 and it took a few years to absolutely work up a load that maximized the efficiency of the pattern of my gun.Even though I've shot many birds with other loads 4's seem to be what it likes best.So dont question the smarts of the guys here as to weather their turkey hunters or not, cause believe me when I say many of us no for sure what shoots best out of our own guns, and speaking for myself it wasn't the duplex load your talking about!Try shooting different sizes and loads out of your own gun on paper, and I think you will see the difference.Later Bobgobble

gobblestopper, ok i'm man enough to say that it could of been my fault as far as aiming a little low on that tom at 46 paces. but the truth is that moss 835 with the factory turkey full choke only patterned good out to 35-40 yards. that being said, i should'nt have taken that shot. but i did and i did'nt miss, oh i hit him alright. it knocked him down, but he got up and ran off grinin at me with enough feathers left on the ground to stuff a pillow case with. and by the way i did shoot the rem 4x6's in my beretta. it put
9 pellets in the head and neck of the target at 50 yards, which was second best. federal
premium 2oz. #4's 3inch 6 pellets at 50 yards
for third place. and by the way "mama did'nt raise no fool"!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2 cents worth is this. The small change in energy your talking about at 40 yards is very small. I think out to 40 yards it dosn't matter if you shoot 4's, 5's or 6's. I do think a lot of people feel better seeing more shot in the head area than if they had less shot. I have used all of them & go back & forth between 5's & 6's, I will say I mostly use #6's now and have never had any problems with them nor did I ever have a problem with #5's. I think it is more important to shoot the shot that patterns best with your gun & choke.

You could kill one with 9 shot if you chose your shots carefully. But I'll stick with #6 & #5 shot.
