Hey guys i'm new to turkey hunting and wanted a few pointers.How many calls do i need?i have a box call do i need more/How about decoys what kind and how many?I live in NC and we have a winter turkey season.I'm going to try to hunt during it and in the spring to.Thanks for your help Good Luck to all!!

Advice on calling. It is better to have one call that you can work well, than 100 calls that you can't make a sound with.

Turkey hunting, just like any other form of hunting is all pretty much trial and error. What I like, you might hate.

I use decoys, but not all the time. I like the inflatable ones b/c they are easy to carry. A hen and jake pair is what most people use.

Patience and getting out in the woods are the two biggest things!

Variety is good. You know how to work a box call. Get a slate or pot call and maybe a push button. They're easy to work and you can use them in the rain. Whatever call you use, don't use it too much. "You can't hardly call too little, but you can call too much." Get a littleexperience before you start using decoys. It's not like duck hunting. Used right, they'll help you. Used wrong, they'll cut your chances

i'd like to add that i don't yelp too much , a few soft purrs and some clucks have worked wonders for me.......dont get me wrong, i'll yelp, but not all of the time and if i have a hen talking to me, i like to do exactly what she is doing. good luck.

You will pickup lots of major professional advice from the board like this , keeping a good eye on posts from the experts like Mr. Longbeard that kill only the hardest hunted Wild Turkeys on Public Lands. These guys have this sport turned inside out and would completely finish turkey hunting all togeather in the US ,if they got onto private land outside of the Public they hunt :(

I myself have every call besides the wing bone. Which I will be getting very soon. Myself I use 2 decoys most of the time. Sometimes I will use a small blind to get behind when I dont have much cover. Winter hunting is different from spring hunting. Make sure you scout
